January 1, 2026

It is a cold and windy day at the dawn of 2026. Three inches of snow fell overnight. Just enough for the need of the snow blower for the driveway and to shovel the front stairs and back. The beauty all around makes the necessary winter work easier, and believe or not: Enjoyable. Happy New Year.

Christmas

It is Christmas evening and the wind is howling. Visiting friends yesterday and today was very pleasant. Tomorrow morning I will go into the studio and work on one painting and start another while the first is still wet. Tomorrow night a winter storm warning with heavy snow is predicted, so I want to get as much work done as possible.

I have not added any new paintings or photographs for a while. I have wanted to build up a body of work. I have received a great deal of positive feedback from friends and artists at Five Points, so I will have to update soon.

The above photograph was made at a brook not far from my home. I like the contrast of the moving water and the stillness of the ice. To me it is peaceful motion.

Merry Christmas and Seasons Greetings.

Dec. 1 Starry Sky.jpg

"Counting My Lucky Stars"

I shot this photograph out of the west window of my dining room. I took this one in December of last year, but I am fortunate to see this similar scene every month. Just the stars and their alignment differs. It is in the middle of the night and when I go into the kitchen to get a drink of water, I still marvel at the star show I see.

The starry night puts into one's view what is really important and how each of our lives comes with a personal perspective that not everyone is going to share or understand. I just stare, go wow, stare some more, and go to bed peacefully.

Feb. Morning Moon.jpg
"Morning Moon"

At 6:30 this morning the soft grey sky was brightened by a low full moon

in the western sky. It was the brightest object in the sky and stayed that way until the moon set. The sun didn't show up until late afternoon and cloud cover previewing another storm hid a sunset. A winter moon is always special.

Blog

"Down the Dirt Road"

It has been a while since I have added on to this website. I have busy with life. As John Lennon said, "Life Is What Happens While You Are Busy Making Other Plans."

Even though I have been occupied I have been doing my photography every day and still going into my painting studio. Photography has taken precedence since the daily beauty of nature still causes me to be in awe with life. I am so blessed to be living in such a beautiful area. Nature is reminder to me of what is really important and it gives me the proper perspective of what is really lasting.

I have so many  photographs and paintings that I could add, but I will do it slowly and try to have this blog be more of a daily/weekly feature rather than an annual cameo appearance.

Today started out with light freezing drizzle on two inches of wet snow. I had to snow blow and shovel before it froze to ice since it is supposed to be nineteen tonight. Of course, being New England it was near 40 at mid-day, but now toward dusk the temperature is dropping and the wind is increasing.

All that being said I thought I would have this first image of 2025 be from my last Christmas card. I shot it on November 22 of last year. Only a half inch of wet snow fell overnight, but the snow engulfed every branch, fallen leaf, and blade of grass it touched. The roads stayed clear and the dirt road that starts just a short walk from where I live became a deep contrast to all the white wonder. Awesome.
